Legia TV

Legia TV is a sport content service complementing DTT broadcast portfolio by means of HbbTV technology combined with LCN. It improves content portfolio of the DTT platform increasing its overall audience.

Description

Legia is the football club of Warsaw - the capital of Poland. It has lots of fans in the country. You can compare it to Real Madrid or Bayern Munchen, adjusting for the coutry.
Emitel has entered into agreement with Legia to launch content service on DTT platform dubbed Legia TV.

The service consists of 2 modes:
A. Live Mode - Legia's football games are transmitted live
B. On Demand Mode - when there is no live game, VOD portal starts offering club videos such as shots from trainings, interviews with players, behind the scenes, etc.

Technically the service runs on dedicated LCN channel 89 with LCN name Legia TV. User zaps to the service by regular means of zapping. After zapping in, the dedicated HbbTV application starts in one of the Modes providing the content.

Impact

Sports content gains high consumer traction. It is extremely relevant for broadcast TV platforms such as DTT where live TV is the essence.
To measure this traction Google Analytics is applied. The number of active users within 28 days nears 200k.

On the other hand side Legia TV has had the impact on the industry in Poland. It served as eye opener that DTT platform is not sentenced to obsolesce, but can provide diversified content in modern way - and without extra STB.

Emitel believes that this initiative will bear more content complementary to DTT in the course of 2019-2020, overcoming the spectrum contraint. All thanks to HbbTV.
